Aronoff, Stephen

From “A Magic Touch” by Meir Ronnen, The Jerusalem Post, no date (but probably about late March 1985).

TOLKOVSKY was still on my mind when I observed with some dismay a new double presentation.  Stephen Aronoff, a perhaps too-frequent exhibitor, shows a series of large paintings on card, devoted to the compositional theme of a square seated above the square of a vertical rectangle.  The treatment is large graphic, despite the freedom of stroke; and the lack of texture only adds to the feeling that despite the good use of colour, nothing really happens.  Itsu Rimmer, who made a recent debut at the Jerusalem theater with hieratic paintings of ancient gods and pyramid symbols, shows more of the same, without any noticeable improvements in composition or colour.  (Alon Gallery, cnr. 51 Palmach, J’lem). Till April 13.
